Supporting Schools
Friends of Udayan are grateful to the following schools for all their fundraising efforts and generating substantial amounts of money in aid of Udayan:
Sacred Heart Primary School, Teddington
St Anthony's Catholic Primary School, Slough
St Joan of Arc Catholic School, Rickmansworth

Since March 2004, St Joan of Arc have held many fund raising events with the aim of supporting Udayan, and of spreading awareness in the local community about the work it carries out for the children of leprosy sufferers in Calcutta, India.
In February 2005 a group of Sixth Formers from St Joan’s, along with two members of staff, travelled to Calcutta to visit Udayan and to offer their services to the home. Following the success of the first visit, another three trips have been made by past and present sixth formers accompanied by staff. On all four occasions the itineraries have incorporated religious places of significance to the major Faiths in India, and the journeys which took on something of the nature of a pilgrimage were recorded on a daily basis.
We hope you will find time to explore the main St Joan of Arc Udayan fundraising website at http://www.joa-udayan.co.uk/.

It is with great excitement that seven past and present students along with Caroline Weldon, Beverley Schramm and Kathryn Spink are planning to set off on St Joan’s fourth pilgrimage to Udayan on Sunday 6th February 2011. The itinerary includes visits to centres of worship belonging to the major religions as well as to places of cultural and historical interest. The highlight and main purpose of the journey is the visit to St Joan’s whole school charity, Udayan, in order to see how it is developing and spend some time working alongside the children. During their time at Udayan the students will be helping the children with their literacy skills.

On the morning of 13th August 2009 I sat at Gatwick Airport feeling rather forlorn, tears pricking at my eyes, feeling guilty at leaving my husband and children for 3 weeks to travel over 5,000 miles to Udayan; it would be the first time in my life that I had ventured out of Europe.
